Video Message From Mrs. Cooper

Hello Pan American families!

The holiday season is upon us and we hope that you are well! We have several updates we wish to share with you. First and foremost, please be sure to check with your student for a letter with calendar updates that were sent home with students. We continue with intentional action and focus on student and staff well-being and student academic growth. Some things that we have accomplished are:

• We have Wellness Coordinator who works with students weekly to share strategies for handling the stress and anxiety
• Weekly lessons on social and emotional learning to help staff and students cope with being back to school in-person. 
• We have been testing for COVID every other week
• We have added extra teachers to focus just on math. 
• We also have at least two teachers in most classrooms each day.
• We have a What I Need (WIN) period for students at every grade level. During this time, students have access to small group instruction.

Changes to come beginning January 2022:

• Getting all students a generation 7 or 8 iPad with a keyboard case and a stylus to help students to seamlessly move from learning in-school to learning at home.
• We have also made changes to our calendar. In an effort to help our students and staff recover from the effects of this pandemic we have:
  • added some additional holidays to the second half of the year
  • Students will dismiss at noon on Wednesdays
  • The school year will end on June 9th for our students
  • Please note that Friday, December 17th, students will dismiss at 12 noon.

Given these updates we have scheduled Parent Forums the week of December 13th. Please be sure to attend the one that fits with your schedule.

• Monday, December 13th 6:00-7:00pm
• Wednesday, December 15th 9:30-10:30am
• Friday, December 17th 2:30-3:30pm

We also have a Parent Forum on MTSS, Special Education Referrals & The Evaluation Process, Tuesday, December 14th! All are encouraged to attend.

Report Card Conferences

A report conference is a great opportunity for parents to understand their child’s academic progress and growth, testing data, assessments, and assignments. Parents can be better informed about students’ strengths, needs, behaviors, and how to help at home.

Report Card Conferences will be held virtually via Zoom the week of December 20th. Teachers will send communication to you via ClassDojo and or phone calls to schedule your conference.

Eduversity

We are continuing to celebrate holidays this month.  The book for this week is Archie Celebrates Diwali by Mitali Banerjee Ruths read by Ms. Latrese Collins.

Reminders

• Students must wear their mask over their nose and mouth daily
• Students must wear their uniforms daily
• Shoes that have open backs (slip ons) are not permitted
• Students should pack healthy lunches
• We are a nut-free school
