We are pleased to share a positive update with you regarding the water testing process explained in our April 15, 2020 letter. At the time, we shared with you that we would be developing a corrective action plan for the two fountains that showed a lead exceedance level higher than 15 parts per billion (ppb).
In consultation with certified lead remediation experts and in an abundance of safety and caution, filters have now been installed on all water fountains in the school building (our bottle filling stations already contained filtration systems).
Just this week, we received results from a final round of testing that confirmed all filters in the building are working properly. There were NO results above the EPA lead action level for these water fountains or bottle filling stations. Each of these outlets showed results that were either well below the lead action level or were undetectable. We have also shared the recent sampling results with the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD).
We are confident this issue has been safely resolved and commit to closely monitoring our water system moving ahead, including testing again in August before the children and staff come back in the fall. We commit to conduct water testing every 6 months to ensure that water quality meets required standards and report these results to you. We will also instruct our building facility staff to conduct monthly checks on all filters to ensure they are working properly and replaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
Please be assured that the health and safety of our school community remains our first priority. We look forward to being together again in our shared learning environment whenever that may be possible.Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
